Creating Our Circumstance

A couple of years ago, I wrote a post about emerging from the depths of a pandemic-induced shutdown and stepping into the exciting unknown. At that time, we all shared the feeling that we couldn’t always predict what lay ahead. It was an unusual realization to some, but we discovered that it’s perfectly alright not to have all the answers. We learned how to endure even in the most trying of situations. Whether on a national scale, within organizations, or in our personal lives, we will undoubtedly face challenges again.

I have a strong hunch that this year will be a defining one for our industry. You’ve seen my upbeat intelligence reports, and there’s so much to be thankful for.As we venture into 2024, let’s adopt a fearless attitude. Fearless! This reminds me of one of my all-time favorite quotes by George Bernard Shaw:

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are they who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.

I wholeheartedly agree with Shaw. We have to summon our courage and audacity to shape our own circumstances. Some of us will do it with great success, while others may struggle at times, and a few may even approach it with reluctance. But as each new year dawns, we’re once again presented with the opportunity to forge our path – to create the opportunities that will make this year extraordinary for ourselves and our businesses.

I’m prepared for this journey. Are you?
